You can use either red wire but not both. One red wire has constant power and the other is controller by the key switch.

Re: 2008 pds state of charge meter install help
Admittedly, I don't know squat, but if I use the red to the key switch - it will still read an accurate charge on the batteries? The LED I am sure has little effect on the batteries, maybe I should use the constant. Which one would you use?

Re: 2008 pds state of charge meter install help
The direct line to the batteries is more accurate. The key-switch offers some resistance which results in a lower reading but, the resistance is constant so if you have a handheld meter you can determine what the difference is and compensate. My test meter has been on for many years without a problem.

I say the constant. I wired mine that way and whenever I walk by the cart I can see at a glance what the pack is reading.

Constantly on is excellent for checking charge at a glance - especially convenient on seldom used carts that discharge while idle. Or carts family uses that occasionally gets put away with being plugged in

Re: 2008 pds state of charge meter install help
My dash mounted DVM is connected directly to the main battery pack terminals and it has been running 24/7/365 for the past six years and is just as bright now as it was when installed.
