Re: Need more torque! Motor or controller?
I went from 36v to 72v on stock motor. If I wasn't careful it would have overheated. You will be fine on 48v for the most part. Don't let the motor case exceed 235°F.

Yeah.....just duct tape a turkey thermometer on the motor. Get one of those thermometer's with the really long jab gizmo's so the temp gauge sticks up through the plastic cover behind the seat. Yeah....really!! |

Re: Need more torque! Motor or controller?
The heck with a turkey thermometer, tape a turkey to it. Why waste perfectly good heat? Heck, tape frozen food to it. You'll cool the motor and defrost your supper.

And as to the OP, assuming that his cart is a series, upgrading the controller itself would provide no change in speed. It would open up the possibilities of future upgrades, however alone it won't gain you anything. I believe I recall having read that on the D&D site when I was looking at my upgrades. |

Re: Need more torque! Motor or controller?
While a controller upgrade alone on a series cart won't net you any mpg gains, it will give you more available torque.
