Default Burnt Ground Wire

Drove the CC in my signature in the pasture to the garden last weekend. Worked a little in the garden and then drove it to the barn. Went to reverse and as soon as I hit the pedal, the cart moved a little and died, then smelt burnt. Was on flat hard ground. Flipped the seat up and batteries and battery cables were fine. Looked at the motor and the ground wire melted off at the connector. Clamped the wire back on and drove it back home.

What could have caused the ground wire to melt? I checked the battery wires and all were tight.

Guess this is a good time to do my full wire upgrade, but want to fix what caused this before I go damaging anything.

Connection was probably bad and corroded from the years. When you took off, it was under enough load that the weakest link (your connection) burnt.

Thanks '93. I'll check the connection when I get to looking at it some more.

Where is there a ground wire on the motor at? I thought there were only 4 wires and all of them going to controller.

The resistor cart motor has four wires, one being the ground that goes back to the battery pack.

Terminology confusion. Petrol cars have negative going to ground, electric carts have negative to battery- not usually called ground.
