Question Re: Voltage reducer - key switch and bypass?

Yes I know this but how does the VR turn on if it's only hooked to one side. (Key switch side) It has a on/off wire from the key switch that isn't hooked up to both sides. So how can it come on on both?

If he wants it to work he has to apply power to the thin red wire for it to come on no matter how it's wired.
He should have the on/off wire to the toggle switch and the key switch down the line. Then he can flip the toggle to activate it with out the key and if he wants to use it normally flip it off.

Default Re: Voltage reducer - key switch and bypass?

This is how a SPDT switch works:
In one position the center terminal is connected to one of the poles:
Center = trigger wire connected to Pole-1 = Key Switch "switched" side.
In the other position the center terminal is connected to the other pole:
Center = trigger wire connected to Pole-2 = constant +48v power

The voltage reducer still has its separate high current +48v input power, that comes from a different wire.

Look at his first post, the last drawing is just showing the relevant parts for the SPDT switch.

Thumbs up Re: Voltage reducer - key switch and bypass?

I had to draw it out to get it right in my head. Sorry for the crude drawing. It should work fine.

Make sure everything else is still connected and You are getting +48v between Thick red wire and black wire and also thin red wire and black wire.
I知 36v so Checking the pins on voltage reducer connector (when connected too) I知 getting 36v on:
Thick Red to Thin Black
Thin Red to Thin Black
At the switch when constant and when key on

Wondering if something is wrong with voltage reducer?

Drawing attached shows everything of what I have set up.

36 or 48 doesn't matter,
Your getting 36 on all the wires? Is it wired like mine?
What kind of fuse block do you have? The yellow wire is the 12 volt hot wire correct? The fuse block shouldn't have both hot and ground wires ran to it. The hot should go to the fuse block and all the grounds to the VR 12 volt ground wire.

I知 getting 36v on 36v side, and 2v on output voltage reducer side. Have Same exact voltage reducer (but 30A) you have and this fuse block below. I have Yellow thick and Black thick going to fuse block. I知 getting 2v on output side of voltage reducer plug

I see a thick red wire on the fuse block +12v input.

Question Re: Voltage reducer - key switch and bypass?

So I see your fuse block has ground connections. Ok your only getting 2 volts with the toggle switch in which position? Are is it straight wired?

Thin black is 36 v output ground from batteries.
Thick red is 36 volt input off batteries
Thin red is key switch 36 volts
Yellow is 12 v out put from VR
Thick black is 12 volt side ground

Straight wired meaning what? I had to add cable from reducer to fuse block and to switch

Well... this is completely backwards from what I was expecting. Yes I知 sure of wiring hookup the Key Mode and Key Bypass wires go 2 different directions.

SPDT Position 1 - Key Mode
SPDT Position 2 - Key Bypass. (attached picture is Position 1)

1. Taking reading at fuse block:
Pos 1, Key off - 2v
Pos 1, Key on, F&R neutral - 2v
Pos 1, Key on, F&R in F - 2v

Pos 2, Key off - 0V
Pos 2, Key on, F&R neutral - 0V
Pos 2, Key on, F&R in F - 2V
Shouldn稚 this be the opposite..?

2. Taking reading at terminals on SPDT switch and ground on farthest battery ground:
Load 1 pole - Key Switch line
Center Pole - Thin Red from voltage reducer
Load 2 pole - Key Switch bypass

祐PDT Position 1 (Key Mode)
Load 1 pole key off - 0v
Load 1 pole key on, F&R in F - 36v
Center pole key off - 36v
Center pole key on, F&R in F - 36v
Load 2 pole key off - 36v
Load 2 pole key on - F&R in F - 36v

祐PDT Position 2 (Key Bypass)
Load 1 pole key off - 0v
Load 1 pole key on, F&R in F - 36v
Center pole key off - 0v
Center pole key on, F&R in F - 36v
Load 2 pole key off - 36v
Load 2 pole key on - F&R in F - 36v

Okay so isn稚 this opposite where I have red

Basically the center pole is determining if fuse block gets 2V or not and it痴 opposite of what it should be but regardless I知 still only getting 2v at fuse block
