I shot a little either in it to see if I could at least get a pop...nothing. It was running along then just died. I put in a new plug. Nothing. Does the governor need to be hooked up to run? It is not but it looked like a mechanical device anyway so I couldn't see how that would affect it. I cleaned the carb. I pulled the full pump line off and cranked the engine and gas is being pumped. After some time trying to get it to start the plug will be wet. Once in a great while it may backfire...help! I don't get it! Thanks kory

I agree with DEW.....compression is not what it should be. Get the compression prob squared away and then see how it does.

The compression is low but even if it was normal that would not tell the whole story. A 2 cycle engine lives and breaths on the ability of the engine to build crankcase suction and pressure not just cylinder pressure. Each time the piston goes up the crankcase has to be tight enough to build a vacuum to draw in the fuel air mixture from the carb. Then when the piston goes down the crankcase has to be tight enough to build pressure that forces that fuel air mixture up passages into the cylinder. If the crankshaft seals, or crankcase gaskets are leaking or the reed valves on the carb manifold are not sealing your engine will not have the crankcase pressures and vacuum necessary to transfer the fuel air mixture. Even if the piston, rings and cylinder are capable of 100+ pounds of compression and the crankcase seals are shot it will not run right and possibly not at all. The necessity for the crankcase to be able to build suction and pressure is why the previous posting from the gentlemen that replaced his crankshaft seals corrected his problem. If you are sure everything else like spark and fuel are functioning as they should I would recommend you have your crankcase seals replaced.

somebody just said check the crank seals, sound like thats the problem if it died all of a sudden, unless you somehow messed up the piston that bad.

pull the jug off, and take a good look at the piston and if its
not burnt to bad on the sides, then rings should do it.
check the inside of the cylinder walls and make sure its in good shape.
also check your crank bearings while your in there

good luck, Dew
