Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
. . the only way to know state of batteries is to charge them properly, load test them and check the SG of the individual cells . . . as for OBC, you stated that you have bypassed it for several years . . . what prompted you to bypass the OBC in the charger relay to begin with?

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
We removed a wire from the charger itself so the golf cart would charge. When we would plug it in, the charger would not start so I read to alter the charger so it would work. I assumed the OBC went bad.

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
. . . you removed a wire or jumpered a wire? . . . in any event, you should either replace the OBC (if bad) or get a smart charger like ScottyB sells . . . "guessing" a charge cycle will destroy your batteries over time . . .

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
I would do an OBC reset, then wire the charger so it doesn't bypass the OBC.
Plug it in and see what happens. If it doesn't come on, OBC is most likely bad. |

My question is assuming that the charger is bad and nothing else. I am anticipating trouble. I seem to find it. |

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
The answer depends on which specific OBC. The versions for Series carts, and I believe perhaps the earlier regen models, were used for charging and fleet diagnostics. The reason it is not in the charger itself is because it does something that no other charger in the market can do, which is to measure the amount of energy that was used since the previous charge and make sure the batteries are not over or under charged.
In the newer Sepex models like the Excell system, it also works with the controller during the Regen period to make sure is safe to raise the package voltage any higher. |
