48v Club Car battery/OBC questions??
I have a 2000 Club Car 48v Regen II. I have just installed a Plum Quick "Bandit" motor on this cart and replaced the 6-8v Trojan batteries with 4-brand new 12V (C&D Technologies High Max Rate UPS12-600MX) batteries. I recieved a heck of a deal for the batteries so that is the reason for using these batteries, instead of going the Trojan route. After installation of the batteries and motor, I charged the cart and checked the voltage. It read around 51V. I ran it that day around the neighborhood, and plugged in the charger. The charger (Powerdrive model #17930) started at 20 amps and never backed down. It then blew the 15 amp fuse on the front of the charger. I have since replaced the 15 amp circuit breaker and the diode assembly (still need to replace the relay). I then plugged the charger in and went to bed. Woke up and the charger is still on (at 5 amps) and is overcharging 3 of the 4 batteries (bad H2S smell).
#1= 5.8v #2= 13.5v #3= 13.3v #4= 13.2v Why would #1 battery not take a charge? Is #1 even repairable? I will try to put an automotive battery charger on #1 and see if I can bring it back? What would cause this on new batteries? I have checked all connections and wiring. Could it be a bad OBC? Thank you in advance!!!!! |

No it is a wiring problem or a battery problem.

Re: 48v Club Car battery/OBC questions??
Thank you Scotty. I will check the wiring in the morning. Should I just replace that one battery?
I took pics of the old motor and batteries and replaced all the wires in the exact same position as the old ones were. Thank you again!!! |

Re: 48v Club Car battery/OBC questions??
Be sure your charger is connected to all 4 batteries. My guess right now is you are charging only 3 of the 4. This would explain the voltage readings and the charger not shutting off.

Those batteries are for standby power applications and is an AGM. They are not golf cart batteries.
Perhaps running the cart was too much for them and one fried. |
