The motor encoder (tach sensor), or motor temp sensor are the most common causes of "only goes 2 mph". The factory troubleshooting guide are available on this site.

He says they "couldn't reproduce the problem" but they replaced the brake. Seems OK so far... we will see.

Do you have a voltmeter that you can measure what's going to the motor brake?
