Default 2006 EZGO TXT - No Solinoid Click

I have a 2006 TXT 36 volt cart - typically when I turn on the key I would hear a click from the solenoid. It would operate like normal... then it started to not click from time to time when we turned the key and when there was no click it would not move when we pressed the pedal.... we would wait a while and try it again and there would be a click from the solenoid and it would operate like normal... now there is never a click and it will not move when pressing the pedal... I talked with a golf cart guy and he said I may need to bypass the Reed Switch... so I went to do that I discovered it had already been bypassed so it is not the Reed Switch... I am guessing the solenoid is bad but not sure... there is a resistor that is hooked onto the solenoid... when the key is in the on position the resistor gets very hot... to about 350 degrees... I am not sure if it normal or not...

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

On your cart, you have two (2) electrical circuits...a High Current circuit (which is comprised of all the large cables) and a activation circuit. The activation circuit is the one that has the solenoid is in it and "activates" the solenoid when the key is and you start to push on the "gas". Attached is a wiring diagram which has the activation circuit highlighted. using a DVM you need to find where you have lost continuity.

Since you didn't say which drive system you have (Series or Sepex) that makes a difference.

if you have a SERIES drive system.....this is the wiring diagram.

if you have a Sepex (PDS) drive system....this is the wiring diagram.

thank you for the reply and advice... I am not sure of the difference between the two systems... I have a forward and reverse switch on the front dash...

I replaced the solenoid and the resistor... it is still will not work...

I am not great with a digital volt meter but I try... each battery in my 36 volt system shows 5 volts... the solenoid shows 32 or 33 volts... the resistor is always hot (temperature) with the key on or off... it is 350 degrees or so... the controller has no volt reading... the motor has no volt reading...

I am at a loss and not really a mechanic... I am more of a parts changer... any ideas or is it time for me to take it to the shop??

thanks again -
Robb

Wouldn't 5v on a 6v battery be considered dead? Fully charged should be 6.3-6.4

Just assuming the 32-33 you are getting is for the total 6-pack...5v x 6 batteries. Also sounds dead.

THIS IS TRUE......

Robb....at this voltage your charger may not even come in if you attempt to charge your cart, you may need to use a 6/12 car battery charger to charge they either separately or in pars to get them charged enough to use the cart charger.
