Trickle chargers

So my charger i guess has either been bypassed or a relay is bad.. it charges up to 61-62 volts and is still at about 5 amps.. but i dont want to keep it plugged in because i can hear the batteries bubbling (freaks me out)

So is there an after market trickle charger i can hook up to this over night for this thing?

I may be wrong but that sounds normal.

1. Your charger will run at max amps, say 17a until it reaches a specific voltage. (Rapid)
2. Your charger will then reduce the amps to say 5a until the voltage stays stable with that amperage. (Equalize)
3. Then your charger will go into trickle mode where it holds the voltage at a specific point (54v-58v) range with only the most minimal of amps it needs to do so. (Float)

This is in no way perfectly technical but is a generic logic of what happens when charging.

well this is my charger.. Mr Nolefan and a few others have explained that it has probably been bypassed being as soon as i plug it into the wall its making noise before plugged into the cart.(but it works)

Im just curious if there is a trickle that i can stick on it once i have put the full charge on it

That is not a Club Car charger, club cars used the OBC for 48v charging.

That is a "Ferroresonant" charger that uses a capacitor to tune the voltage and a regular "timer" to stop the charging.

If the charger is not stopping, you may need a new timer board or just replace with a new "smart" charger.

Sergio, i have an 89 ds that i have converted over to 48.. it doesnt have and OBC and it has the 2 prong Crow foot.. I can not seem to locate a new timer board so i only charge it when im home and can keep an eye on the volts.. The new smart chargers i have not seen with the plug i need either unless im looking in the wrong places...

I really should probably get a new charger that has the float option, trickle and so forth but until money permits i really just need to find a battery tender..

Unless someone has a charger for the low that they want to get rid of lol

No problem... I like the 2nd one. I have it mounted on board and made my own plug out of and old computer power supply.

The plug is not hard to change. I would get the charger that is needed and change it to a crowsfoot and leave the cart receptacle as is.

In the meantime if you need a timer. I used this one when my batteries were acting up. It has plenty current capabilities because I'm using it for my AC now.
