Club Car not running properly
I have a 2012 Club Car Precedent Electric with 2016 U.S Batteries. (48V)
Recently the cart has been running weaker and shuddering up hills. Last night it couldn't even make it up a slight incline after being off the charger for about 5 mins of driving. Using a voltmeter, I get a range of 8.4-8.6V fully charged (charger not plugged in) and when charging I get a range of 9.2-9.7V My wife was using the cart when I was away for work for the last few months, and when I got home, the water levels were low in a few of the batteries. Before I fork out 900 bucks on new batteries, I figured I'd come here to see if it could be something else based on the numbers I provided, since the batteries are only 2 years old and are always on the auto charger. Thanks for your help. UPDATE I just drove the cart around with hills for about 20 mins with no issues. Measured the voltage and the range is still about 8.3-8.6V. Last night when I was having issues with it not making it up any hills, it was with 4X people on board. I never used to have issues carting around 4-5 people with the same hills. So it seems the only issues lie with added weight. Is this still a battery issue or something else? Dave Last edited by Floutier84; 11-01-2018 at 09:03 AM.. Reason: Update |

Re: Club Car not running properly
Sounds like you have at least one battery dropping under load. Put a meter on the lowest voltage battery a see what it drops to under load

Yes, with the plates being exposed, you've definitely done irreversible damage to the batteries. Like mrgolf stated, you have one or more batteries dropping out under load.
The resting voltage will not tell you the true health of the pack. You'll need to get measurements of each battery under load (I would drive that same hill) and see which one(s) might be the culprit. |

Re: Club Car not running properly
I had my wife drive up the hill while I took measurements. All of the batteries dropped to about 7.3-7.5V while under load up the hill. It wasn't straining like it was yesterday. I might redo the test when my kids get home from school with some additional weight on the back.
