97 club car wont run, several new parts, got voltage
So the 97 48 volt club car was having intermittent problems with going and reversing. We replaced ignition switch, forward and reverse toggle switch, all new wires to the batteries with new connections. Over the weekend the car wood rapidly stop when applying brakes. We ran the car shut it off to enjoy scenery went to start it and it would not go, we replaced the above items at this point and was able to run the car for another 20 minutes and it repeated the symptoms then we replace the solenoid. Voltage is good solenoid is good. We seem to have power to the toggle switch forward and reverse the solenoid, and the motor seems to want to move but no action from the tires. From information that were reading I wonder if it has to do with the speed control because of the sudden jerking stopping. If someone could help we would appreciate it

Re: 97 club car wont run, several new parts, got voltage
That sounds like a Regen cart and there was a separate solenoid for the dynamic braking. If someone bypasses it, you must unplug your speed sensor or you will eat a windshield unexpectedly.
If yours has a Run/Tow switch. it is a Regen 2. If not and only a Fwd/Rev Rocker switch, it is a late Regen 1.... Those are notorious for controller issues. |

Re: 97 club car wont run, several new parts, got voltage
It has a forward /reverse rocker switch.
So is breaking issue a different issue then why it wont run ? So maybe the speed sensor is going bad to make the cart brake hard ? |

Re: 97 club car wont run, several new parts, got voltage
It could be, and since that is a Regen1 cart, as mrgolf stated, unplugging the speed sensor will not cause limp mode in that version. Try it and see. Could be the controller starting to go, too.

Re: 97 club car wont run, several new parts, got voltage
So some updated information on the cart. We have figured out that it has been updated with the newer controller at some point. It does not have the t shaped , it has a silver box. I dont know if this helps anyone. We cant find a wiring diagram anywhere- dealer contacting club car tomorrow. It has f1 f2 motor but all diagrams have 2 solenoids. Our only has one. And there are a few other differences.

A lot of times the dynamic brake solenoid was removed or bypassed. This only left the Main Contactor (solenoid)

Re: 97 club car wont run, several new parts, got voltage
There is an after market silver REGEN 1 controller which (I believe) eliminates the need for the second solenoid but uses the original wiring harness. If you keep that harness then only that aftermarket controller will be a compatible replacement.

We have tried disconnecting the speed sensor and theres no change. Pulled the control box sending in for diagnostic.
