Testing an FSIP controller

Perhaps it was on the limit of failure and finally decided to go. Electronics tend to fail because of heat cycling. over and over and over for years and finally some solder joint or component has developed a weak spot.

Think of it like a race car engine. You CAN run it to 9,000 rpm all day long. But then after a few years of doing that you decide to run it to 9,100 rpm...

Like Nole said, Are you SURE the solenoid/contactor is passing current to the controller?

Can you temporarily bypass the solenoid to see if it works?

If everything points to the controller, and if you or someone you know has the ability, mosfets for that thing are probably about $1.50 each.

I'm going to test the solenoid one more time but IIRC it's not reading like Nole described.

What's the easiest way to bypass it to check?

Should I unhook anything from the solenoid before doing this?

I'm getting around 11 volts on the solenoid's large posts with the pedal up, then drops to zero with pedal pressed.

What terminals are you getting 11 volts on ? Negative on the pack and positive on the two main lugs should read the same when the pedal is pushed.

No, a lead on each large lug of the solenoid.

Not sure if I would test that way but if it is dropping to zero I would think the solenoid is good.

That's what I'm thing too but I'll try jumping it just to be 100%.

Easiest way I do is put both big cables on the same big post that has the battery cable on it. If there is a small wire on this post leave it there too. This eliminates the solenoid from the system.
