Default New voltage reducer with 5 wires.....

Just wanted some input from the electrical guru’s. Bought a RedLion brand voltage reducer. Nothing super fancy but it appears to be a well built unit. My question is that it has the two input and two output wires accompanied by what is labeled as a “control” wire. I am assuming that this wire is meant to connect at the key switch to allow power to the reducer when the key is on and not when it’s off. If this is the case, should I just simply connect that single wire to the back of the switch? I am confused because if the reducer is hard wired to the main pos/neg of the pack won’t it be energized all the time? I only want the reducer “hot” when the key is on. School me on this pls.

While the electronics inside the converter stay ON all the time, the +12v output is only available when the 'Control' wire connected to the Key switch has pack voltage.

When the key switch is OFF the converter will use a very small amount of current to be on stand-by.
