blown resistor
i have a 2006 club car precedent that I put a new speed sensor on, ran really good after the installation and then just quit, found the resister blown on the solenoid, put a new one and it blew right away, any thoughts as to why this resister keeps blowing

Re: blown resistor
That is usually a sign of a failing controller (rarely, but sometimes a motor issue) as you have an internal FET failing and it is creating a current draw at the controller and it pulls excessive current thru the resistor and makes it heat up and fail. The concern for your should be the the resistor (between the large posts) is not needed to operate, so it should run without it for testing purposes only. It is there to precharge the capacitors in your controller and is needed for normal operation, but it "blowing" as you described indicates there is most likely an issue in the controller....
And this is separate from the diode installed on the smaller posts which is there for coil suppression when the field opens. |

Re: blown resistor
Sounds more likely he is talking about the diode, I don't think it is possible for that resistor to "blow up" unless it is like a 1/4 watt resistor and then it would "smoke".

Re: blown resistor
Yeah, I suspected, but wanted to give him both scenarios to allow him to understand the function(s) and know for sure what he was looking at.

Re: blown resistor
got the cart out of storage, batteries charged, no resister hooked up, when you hit the accelerator pedal nothing happens, have 51.4 volts at the solenoid
but no engagement of it, the controller is a curtis mn 1510a,5251 250 amp unit |
