It does not take many weeks or months of that for the cast aluminum to come out of the rotor slots and get jammed between the rotor and the stator lams. The rear end locks up at high speed and not much control when that happens.
Wow! Yeah, I havent seen that guys "handywork". And I have never (yet) seen a actual mechanical failure of that nature in an rxv motor. I also never intentionally put any motor out even at 9600 or above.

I take it up to 9600 RPM, as that is the designed RPM limit for the RXV motor. That provides a top speed of 26-27 MPH with stock 18" tires. It can sometimes survive short excursions to 12,000 RPM, but prolonged operation at speeds in excess of 10,000 RPM will lead to eventual failure of the aluminum "windings" that are cast into the slots of the laminated core. They are not held in place by anything more than the friction with the formvar coated slot walls, and their rigidity.

I have one of his casualties. The rotor is securely locked into the stator and was unable to be pressed out of it. What a waste!

Thanks for explaining what exactly happens at high RPMs on this motor, and what the experiential safe limits are.

I knew I'd read on here at some point about bad things happening if you push them too hard.
