Origin of red wires to small solenoid post

Thanks guys, you put me on the right track. I had assumed the red wire coming from the controller supplied power to the pedal switch. It's crimped in the same terminal as the black wire so the 38v is was reading at the red wire was black wire power. After reading your post about the black wire from the f/r switch assembly I pulled the f/r switch and found the micro switch is bad. I should have one here in a couple of days and put it back the way it should be (without my key-switch wire)

Not a Melex 252, they were made in the '70s. I owned one. My first cart and the first time I learned repair work on one. I've never actually seen one with a controller unless someone did what they do to Marathons and upgrade one to solid state, which is easy to do.

I have however seen gas versions, completely different body and the special Briggs engine they used has no parts made anywhere.

I can’t verify the data at vintage golf carts, but the years given for the 252 are’85-‘90. I think I read somewhere the switch to a solid-state controller was made with serial#’s in the 160K range. Ours is 184972 and has the controller. I have an email out to a vendor to see what additional information would be needed to set up the Alltrax SR 48400 for it and move to 48V. It’s so much fun!
