Default 36v Battery mismatch / upgrade path

Hello all, I've finally joined the golf cart owners club with the purchase of a 36v 99 EZ GO TXT. When I got it they mentioned something about it being a 40v cart but I didn't think anything of it until tonight when I realized they had 4 - 6v batteries and 2 - 8v batteries to make it a 40v cart.

I'm fairly sure that's not a good combination and that they should all be the same voltage so my question to those who know more than I do is how long can this cart survive like this? My plan is to eventually upgrade the controller and bump the cart to a 48v cart but don't think I can swing upgrading everything at once.

Is it save to leave this battery combination for a bit longer if I were to upgrade the controller and related parts? I'd hate to have to spring for some 6v batteries only for me to replace them with 8v batteries when the funds allow me to upgrade them. While I'm exploring battery options should I just skip the 8v batteries and go for a lithium ion upgrade?

Default Re: 36v Battery mismatch / upgrade path

The batteries have the most risk of being damaged, they will be constantly under charged. With the charger second most at risk. (Both things would be replaced when changing to 48v). I suspect it will be fine like that for a while.
