Default 90 Marathon Rev Limiter???

Trying to figure out why I'm not getting the speeds that I'm looking for out of my 90 marathon 2-stroke. I looked at the governor, and it is connected to the linkage to the carb, and the throttle cable (no connections to the clutch, etc.,) With the hammer all the way down on it, I can get up to about 15Mph on the GPS, and then I hear the motor wind down like it is hitting a rev limiter or something. After a few seconds, it will kick back up in RPM's, and keep going. Am I missing something here? Thanks

no rev limiter on that cart, it's the governor pulling the throttle back. You can adjust that.

Thanks a lot! as far as the adjustment, I looked at the governor spring assembly and it doesn't look like I can crank it down at all, should it be zip-tied? Thank.s

can't you just loosen the gov. cable at the carb so it can't pull back so much. other than that I don't know, I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those setups

I tightened the nut as much as possible on my 89. I tried the zip tie trick before but it sounded like the engine was over revving so I removed it.

I might be thinking wrong, I get confused on the 2 strokes at times. Some have gov. located on the rear like the 4 strokes and others have it where it comes off the driven clutch.
If it's on the rear you can look in the tech section in the thread governor adjustment 4 strokes, it'll show you how.

Hi sccowboy, good to see you, haven't seen you for awhile.

Thanks a lot guys! I was able to crank the nut down, and it's running just how I had hoped!

Hi sccowboy, good to see you, haven't seen you for awhile.
I have been really busy lately. Beach, lake, Carowinds, lake, home, and lake again LOL. Trying to square away my newer cart. I traded my old marathon off for a 97 TXT. Tires are too big. Need to get rid of them and drop to 23X10 or so.
