OK, this is a longshot, but here's my thought. The orange wire is for half-speed reverse, a common safety feature on these carts. Your cart has a stock 275a series controller. The reason you are going faster in forward AFTER disconnecting the orange wire is that your cart may be wired wrong at the motor. In other words, removing the half-speed reverse wire made you faster in forward because your cart is wired backwards.

Now, the proof. When you sit in the cart, which way does the gearshift knob point to when you go forward? It should go towards the driver for forward, and towards the passenger for reverse.

The knob does point toward the driver in forward, but that doesn't mean that it isn't reversed at or after the F/R switch.

so according to your theory, the cart is supposed to be that fast in forward and just removing the wire won't hurt it? I don't care about slow reverse

It would take a higher level of expertise than myself to say it would act this way if it was simply wired wrong at the motor, but I think I'm real close to the reason.

I keep my half-speed reverse activated just because of our campground and how crowded it can get at the dances, beach, and bar.

Actually, it's the only bar I don't frequent. It has a seven foot ceiling and they allow smoking. I can't stand it in there!

Just took a spin around the neighborhood and nothing burnt up, so I guess I'm good. I must have a high speed (27mph) motor I didn't know about.

Thanks for your help gornoman.
