Default Should I buy the 96 or 97?

Hi there,
As you can see by my posts I'm new to the site as well as being a buggy owner.
I was just down at my local Club Car dealer and he has 2 carts in my price range (exact same price). One is a 1996 and the other a 1997. The 97 is in better shape cosmetically so naturally that was the one I was going to get. Then I started doing some reading about the clockwise/counterclockwise rotation of the engines and possible problems with mods to the 97 in case I go down that road.
I guess my question is which one is the way to go? I've told him to hold the 97 but I'm sure the 96 would still be available if I wanted it.
Is there more problems with one or the other? Are parts cheaper for one?
Any suggestions/comments relating to this from people in the know would be helpful.
Thanks
Shades

Made my first mistake. Could a moderator please move this to the GAS club car section?
Sorry

Both carts have 15 yr old motors. I would go with the 96 just because I know you can upgrade the motor in it for less than you can replace the motor in the 97

Enjoy BGW!

Thanks Scotty, would there be much difference in price for rebuild kits to rebuild the existing motors?
Can the existing motors on both be hopped up to get more power?
Are the performance parts more readily available for the 96? Cheaper?
I'm not looking anywhere in the near future to replace the engines with a big block as funds will be a little low, but a few mods here and there may happen.
I was really wanting someone to say the 97 was the way to go as it seems to look in a lot better shape but I also respect the advice of the members on here and if told it's in my best intrest I'll get the 96.
