Default Valve Cover Question

Got a G9 Engine I'm redoing. I noticed on here a few pics with what looked like chrome valve covers. Did ya'll paint them? have them chromed or polish the alum or did you buy them chromed?

Doc, I used some kind of "polishing compound" (just for aluminum), and a polishing wheel on a bench grinder. had the compound for 20+ yrs. don't know what it is, comes in a bar.
Then there is a finer grit, for even better results but I don't have any.

Look on line (or phone book-old school) for sanding and polishing compounds, its not expensive.

Took me about 45 min. to do the valve cover!

A Hot Rod golf cart's got to have a Hot Rod Motor!!

I polish a lot of boat parts. I use Tripoli compound with a high speed buffing wheel on aluminum. Like Mike Mac said, your best bet is to use a bench grinder. It works with any high speed wheel, but the bench grinder works best. You can buy the buffing wheels for a hand held angle grinder or dremel (although it takes a while with a dremel). Whatever method you choose, you need the wheel speed though. A drill might work, but it's gonna take quite a while. If there's a lot of corrosion or other build-up on it, sometimes you have to sand it first.

Here's a link. You can buy the stuff all over though. If you've got a Harbor Freight near you they have it for sure.

Pretty much just the block, alternator and oil pan are the only things not polished aluminum. Although I'll admit since this picture I've gone to Jethot ceramic coatings. Much easier to maintain.

If you go to goggle and put in "polishing aluminum" you will find all kinds of sites about polishing...

It runs as good as any Chevy, Mopar, Olds, Pontiac, or Toyota with 500 hp on the motor and a 200 hp shot of nitrous.
