G16 rear flip seat build pics
What you see here is the original seat uprights cut off where they extend out of the seat back enough to attach 1" square tube across both of them. This provided support for the seats as well as provided a spot for the roof supports to be attached. This picture also shows one of the four bolts that hold the rear flip seat assembly on. Take note of the short square tube, this is for the rear seat back posts to slip into. Allows them to be removed when hauling items on the bed that may damage the vinyl covering. You also see in this picture part of the rear seat bottom frame without the rear seat pad attached. This is the part that flips over to extend the bed and provide a work area at the back of the cart.

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
This picture shows the bed removed by taking out 4 bolts. The upper mounts are 1.5" angle iron cut 1" wide with a welded 5/16" nut on the bottom. I welded these just above the level of the body. These mounts ended up being perfectly level with the cart since the seat uprights were at 45 degrees in this area. Kept the bed low on the cart!
In the previous post you can see the bolts right beside the rear seat back tubes. |

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
This shot shows that I had to bend the aluminum roof supports forward to attach to the new 1" tube going across in post #1 of this thread. I bent these by putting in my hydraulic press with a piece of round stock. Trial and error got the angle just right to attach easily without stressing any metal parts. Notice I removed all of the roof support that used to turn and run back along the side of the sweater basket.

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
Two shots to show the side view with the seat in place for riding and then with it flipped down and the back rests removed. On the second picture keep in mind that the seat pad is supposed to still be attached and a metal plate is to be covering it making a worktable. I did not have these in place for this picture.
I just realized how small my shop must look! This is actually my bike shop, 12x40 with a heated floor and lifts. Just through the side door is my 30x40 shop where I do any fabricating. I had just wheeled into this side for the pics. |

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
The bagwell was cut off right through the drain slots as you can see in this picture. I replaced the factory bumper with a 1x3 steel tube with angle iron mount tabs using the cart's factory frame bumper mounts. In the second picture you can see that I welded a 3/8" nut to the angle iron so I didn't have to fiddle around with anything when taking the seat off. Two bolts at the front and two bolts at the rear hold everything to the cart. The third picture shows the cut bagwell and the factory frame bumper mounts.
Take no care of the wires coming into the bagwell, these are a temporary rear light hook up for the local police.... |

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
Here is the seat apparatus removed with four bolts. With the vinyl and then without. What is missing in the second shot is a flat plate that I will weld on to the bottom of the flip seat providing me the rear "worktable".

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
I'll start geting dimensions together and more detailed pics. Please ask questions and I will do everything I can to get the information for you. This build may not suit everyone's needs but it works perfectly for my uses.
And yes that cart is filthy!!! I hate taking pictures because it gives you time to look more closely at things.... Everything will be good when I get the body off for a good polishing, lift kit ordered, wheels put on, and the rear lights cut into the fenders. Mike Mac and Stuff4Mason promise that will be the last mods I will ever do..... |

Re: G16 rear flip seat build pics
Nice job and excellent documentation.
Now I want to get started on my flip seat for my cart.Oh thats right i need to get the engine back in first. I like how you have it removable with just four bolts.I wanted to be able to take mine off as well without having to remove 20 different brackets and 40 bolts. Gave me a few new ideas for my own cart.thanks! |
