2000 Club DS Torque Upgrade
I want to increase the torque of my cart to improve the speed on inclines. My 48V cart has a GE D377 motor and appears to have a stock Curtis controller (its silver, but the label is unreadable). I understand that the current rating of the controller is 225A but have also seen some places that state it is 275A - which is correct?
The cart is used solely for road use in our community where a one way trip can be up to 12 miles. With standard size tires and good batteries, the cart will do 19-20 mph on the flat, but with two persons, it slows to 17 mph on the smallest incline and slows to 14 mph on a long incline to my home. This is central Florida, so the terain is not significantly hilly! What are some of the lower cost methods to increase the torque for improved speed on the inclines without overheating the motor and/or other components on our long trips? |

Re: 2000 Club DS Torque Upgrade
A larger controller is your best bang for your buck for adding torque. Along with larger gauge cables throughout ..

Re: 2000 Club DS Torque Upgrade
I have a choice of controller upgrades: 300A and 400A. A 300A controller will work with the existing electrical system, but a 400A controller requires new wires, solenoid and F/R switch. Based upon the driving conditions I listed in my original post, what performance improvements can I reasonably expect with these two different upgrades?
