I used #8 stainless screws to mount them. If the mounting holes for the speaker do not line up with the "rim" of the cap just cut a piece of 6" pipe about 1 1/2" long and glue it and push it in so that the edges are even. Let it dry and attach the speakers with the stainless screws and attach the grilles. In my case the grilles were part of the speaker.

I did the exact same thing last year except I screwed my pipe caps to the floor board.

I had to glue the pipe inside of mine to have enough to mount the speakers to. I just drilled a small hole in the pipe cap for the speaker wire and put about 3 screws through it into the floorboard and then mounted the speaker to the pipe cap.

I had to add some pipe into mine as well to screw the speaker to. Drilled two holes, one for the wire and one for the mounting bolt.
