The circuit breaker wont cause the needle to fluctuate wildly, so go for rectifier first. The multiple and repeated tripping of the circuit breaker has probably weakened it, causing it to trip at a lower than specified amp, so when the rectifier makes it work, but it still trips later, get the breaker.

Exactly what cgtech said. When these circuit breakers trip, they become weaker and weaker. That is why it's a good idea to replace both.

. . . site sponsors or eBay . . . should cost around $35 or so for the rectifier and breaker . . .

The 50 amp is 'heavy duty' and supposedly lasts longer. The 35 amp is what comes on the charger from the factory, so it will work just fine. I'm not really sure if the 50 amp actually lasts longer, maybe someone who has used one will chime in...

The PowerDrive3 will cook a 35 Amp in no time. It was never used in a PD3. The PD3 originally came equipped with a 50.
