Default What happened to 1awg wire??

A few years ago when upgrading my 2000 CC DS the hype was 1awg, you had to go with it, which I did run at the time, but now as I’m getting my info together to upgrade another cart (2006 DS) it seems everyone is cool with 2awg. What gives?

1g is not needed. Never was in my opinion.
2g is more than what's needed in most builds.

I've got 1awg wire on the 6v batteries that are in the motor grader I run. The starter on that thing is so big the starter solenoid has a solenoid. It's turning over a 320ci straight 6 diesel. Cables never get even close to hot on that when it's cranking.
I can't imagine trying to work with 1awg wire for cables for a cart.

Cable size is really dependent on the maximum amp load they might be exposed to. I've never heard of a cart needing more than 2awg with high torque motor and 500+A controllers. If the cart is stock 4awg is more than enough.

Maybe the Plum Quick guys run bigger in their race cart?

I’ve got a bunch of 4/0 if you’re feeling frisky

Funny you should mention… that’s exactly what I did with my last cart. I had the Alltrax XCT48500 and a super torquey admiral motor purchased from Dave at Revolution.

Thank you, Sir! I have 4awg on the factory set up. I’m getting all my costs and ducks in a row to upgrade this cart like my old one. It’s super hilly where I live and I can’t stand when my cart boggs down going up hill. I don’t even want to do more than like 25mph top end, just want to be able to get uphill without hating my cart lol.
