Voltage converter or extra battery
I've converted my EZGO TXT to 48V using 6 8V batteries. I'm now need to get the 12V accessories working. Would you guys recommend buying a voltage converter (48V to 12V), or just add a 12 volt battery under the seat. I'm leaning towards the voltage converter. Is there one that is recommended if this is the best route? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Voltage converter or extra battery
A reducer will eliminate the need for separately charging the 12v accessory battery and finding a place for it. Also the reducer will draw off the pack as a whole and unless you're running a lot of amps on accessories your run time won't be noticeably different.
Fuse all circuits. Check wiring etc. before connecting a load. yada yada yada. Practice safe accessorizing! |

I mainly want to run headlights and maybe a couple of 12V accessory outlets.

Re: Voltage converter or extra battery
I been running my lights off a 12v tractor battery bought for 30 bucks at autozone. I had a 12v charger anyway and when i charge the cart I also charge the 12v. No problems and works great for me.

Re: Voltage converter or extra battery
Are you talking about one of those small lawn tractor batteries?

Yep, and I have had no problems. I know others here may not agree, but for me it works good. Five it a try for 30 bucks.

Re: Voltage converter or extra battery
I chose to go with the voltage reducer off of Ebay for $70, eliminated the need to move the wires around monthly or having to charge a separate battery. Do it once, do it right and you'll be glad in the long run is my personal opinion.
I know you are going to 48v, I'm on 36v and did this one because it was a 20 amp unit. http://cgi.ebay.com/GOLF-CART-VOLTAG...3286.m20.l1116 |
