upgrade to Lithium, how many AMPS do I need?

I have a 2018 Club Car Precedent 48V. I want to upgrade to Lithium. should i get 60amp, 100amp, what?

My usage is for golf from 5-8 hours in a day, nothing crazy. I've got the stock controller that is programmed for max speed (level 4 or 5). I don't want to buy overkill power, just for a stock golf cart.

Also, any recommendations on what brand I should buy?

There's a difference between amp and amp-hour.

You should get a pack that can deliver at least 90 amps continuous for a mostly stock cart.

Amp-hour is the capacity, how much range you will get. 5-8 hours playing golf is how many miles for you? That will help answer how much capacity you need. My guess probably 100 amp-hour minimum.

As for a brand recommendation, there are tons out there, but I'm liking the epoch GC2 kits. You can add more batteries later if you run into range issues. Also dont need to modify the battery compartment to fit.

everyone has a different opinion on this and the cart hardware, voltage and terrain has a lot to do with this. My 48v series cart never draws over 70 amps continuous so far... thats on flat terrain though.

I just upgraded my 2016 EZGO TXT with a LiTime 48V 60A-H battery that produces 3072W-H. My cart has a stock controller and free wheels when your foot is off the accelerator. The battery manufacturer estimates 21-24 mile range. My first test run I went 10 miles and used 40% of battery capacity and measured by my BMV700 power meter on flat roads Which I think is in line with the predicted range. Hope this helps

You have to make sure whatever you get has enough peak surge capacity. 200A is not going to cut it. I just bought some 100AH LiFePO4 batteries that the company says produce 400A±80A for 0.5-1.5s and supports golf carts up to 4KW. Their customer service has been outstanding so far. 5-year warranty. I was considering Dakota Lithium batteries with their 11-year warranty, but the cost would have been almost 3x what I paid.

If you have a stock motor they draw much less current even for short peak bursts. You can buy a digital shunt amp meter and wire it up to monitor what kind of current your carts drawing now... With a slightly higher voltage lithium pack it will only be less if anything.

What ever you do dont make the mistake of buying 12v rv solar batteries they will not stay balanced and you will end up having issues months down the road. They are also not designed for high current draw situations and are typically not properly compressed for EV use.

If everything is stock, and you are happy with your current battery range, which I assume is Lead Acid, manufactures state 60amp is similar. Of course you need to trust them on this but I believe the standard Lithium battery in the new Club cars is around 60amps, but they do use AC motors and are limited to around 18 mph. Keeping looking for feedback from similar usage posters.

When my lead acid dies, I plan on 60amp for my stock Advanced EV, which is mostly flat terrain and golf but the dog loves a good long ride too!

Amp-hours. The factory lithium packs (not the extended range ones) are around 60 amp-hours.

But they can easily supply 200 amps or so when zipping up a hill.

When converting to lithium, a rule of thumb is that you need about 1/3 the Ah for the same range, so 60Ah will give you about the same range as a 180Ah LA pack.

Current required will depend on cart, modifications, terrain, carried weight etc.
