Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
and don't worry about replacing a $180 ignitor, you can do the HEI conversion for around $30 (search HEI Mod here in the threads) and get better results than the factory ignitor anyhow ...

Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
Well, charged her up overnight, night before last....seems a little better but, perhaps that's wishful thinking. Where she was taking 5~8" to rev up, now down to 2~4"...Could I have grounding issue? Just doesn't make sense that out of one side of the coil I get a nice thick spark but out of the other side significantly weaker....

Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
...and, after trying to run her around today, same as original trouble. Gonna pull the head and confirm valve sealing is good.

...have a good ignitor? (Do you get spark?) Not sure if you're offering spare parts at a SUBSTANTIAL discount!!?

Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
...not sure why I said that I'd pull the head...it's spark I'm struggling with.
I'm very interested in an HEI conversion. However, there seems to be so many thoughts / variations, etc between 2-stroke and 4 stroke. Can someone give me the best scenario for 4 stroke, 295cc assuming I use my new coil? What do I need to purchase? Of course I understand importance of properly grounding / wicking heat away....just not certain what hardware to buy and best option for "wiring" it in. |

Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
...well...I pulled the fan shield away last night, noticed some dirt and corrosion around the pulsar (and then the family decided they wanted to go get icecream). So, today after work, I confirmed the clearance of the pulsar coil before ripping into it.
So, as I decided to go ahead and remove the pulsar coil all together (to make sure to get her good and clean). I noticed upon removal that it appears it's been adjusted previously because the plastic "ridge" that should be there covering the magnet?? was snapped off. Previous owner must've adjusted too close to the hub and when the notch came by snapped it off. Anyway, I cleaned things up real well, adjusted the pulsar clearance to the hub at 0.030" and proceeded to re-install the coil. I sanded the coil mounting bracket well prior to installing. Upon re-assembly, I checked the spark condition. At first, same situation...weak spark on one side. Then, as I was checking both at the same time (with left hand contorted in a fashion that someday I'll surely suffer from carpel tunnel and right hand on the accelerator), I saw weak spark on one, and super strong spark on the other and ZAP, got poked by one of the metal rivets on the accelerator pedal....ZOINKS! I proceed to try again and whaddya know....now they look equal...like the strong one shrunk and the weak one grew...what the heck? Is my cart possessed? Did she simply want to see me in pain before she would cooperate? Wondering about good grounding condition, I went ahead and cleaned up all the grounding wires, scraped paint off the frame to secure a good grounding connection and now she's running great. So, for now, she's tip top again...what the heck? With the condition of the pulsar (I can see metal), should I replace it? |

Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
...so, I found a newer TXT engine service manual (pdf) and learned the resistance readings of the pulser and coil. Coil is good (thank goodness 'cause that is new) and the pulser....well, where it "should" read 433~586....she only reads 20.8. Looks like a bad pulser. Any one have a good one laying around at a discounted rate?

Re: 91 EZGO Gas hesitant starting
....and then I see a guy selling one on Ebay that indicates "Good Used" with an ohm reading of 20.7. Am I missing something? Can someone advise if I need a new pulsar coil with a reading like 20.8? Thanks a bunch.
