Lithium Upgrade
I found these on ebay right now for $404 delivered. 7 x Nissan Leaf Battery Module 7.6V 35-40Ah
These are refurbished Nissan Leaf Gen 1 battery pack modules. Guaranteed and tested. You are buying a refurbished cell, so these can be used for off-road applications like golf carts, or in a lab for electronics power applications. BY PURCHASING YOU ACCEPT ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY FOR THESE CELLS. 7.6V nominal Cells are at 30% state of charge for shipping. Measured capacity is between 35Ah and 40Ah. This is measured at a 50A discharge rate between 4.1 and 3.0V. Compare that to other testing methods and you will find that these are very good modules with plenty of capacity and cycles remaining (multiple thousands of cycles if taken care of). Capable of 100+ amps continuous. We have Left and Right hand modules (Positive terminal on the left, or Positive terminal on the right) terminal arrangement. You will get whichever we grab unless you specify in an email or ebay message immediately after ordering. These are great for off-road applications like golf carts or lab applications like a DC supply with low ripple. You are responsible for figuring out how to charge them. They are LiMn2O4 with LiNiO2 chemistry so they can NOT be charged with a regular battery charger. You must use a charger made for this type of Lithium cell. My questions are: 1.) Does this sound legit and a good deal? 2.) How do you charge them? 3.) Is it typical for them to be at 30% charge to ship? 4.) Do they give you the same drive time as regular batteries? 5.) What is the difference in Gen 1 and Gen 2? |

Re: Lithium Upgrade
There is no "refurbishing" of lithium modules, they are used, and those in particular were used a lot...
Others can offer more information on the differences between Gen1 and Gen2. I do know that the double-stacked modules from the 30 kW/Hr packs were found to be life limited to about 2 years of service according to longevity data collected by Nissan. The earlier modules from the 23 kW/Hr packs have an expected lifespan of 8 years or more. New capacity for Gen1 modules is 66.6 A/H I believe. Nissan just came out with a new generation 2018 40 kW/Hr pack with modules that are rated at 116.3 A/H. I bought one of those packs recently, from what I was told was the first totalled 2018 Nissan Leaf to become available from an insurance auction. The 35 to 40 A/H capacity you were quoted is rather low for golf cart use, you would need to double up a pair of those packs to get a decent capacity. You're going to want 60+ A/H if you want to use a single pack. I drove my lithium RXV 22 miles today and when I parked it, my SOC was still at 78%. I'm driving it further and further, collecting charge and discharge data. My pack is a single pack of 7 modules. The best I can figure so far, it is about 64 A/H. Here is a listing from a company that puts 7 module sets on eBay for usually under $600. Keep checking, they sell out and get more often. I've not bought from them, but I have referred others to them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/113079546945 I avoid all lithium cells/packs that contain cobalt. It is the element most responsible for damage caused by lithium cell failure. The cells in Nissan Leaf modules don't use it. The cells in most other EV packs do. |
