Default Off-road, harsh terrains, streets....

I see all of these carts on the site that are offroading, going to campgrounds, deserts and stuff like that. I am wondering do you have to have a gas golf cart to be able to do those "harsher" terrain rides or will my electric be sufficient.

Is gas better than electric?

I do plan on a lift on my 1981 G1 but before I go and do that I want to make sure that I can take it to my farm and tear it up.

Any ways to increase the speed of a G1? What is the top speed of a G1?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

There are several parts to your question I'll take a shot at 1 .... The G1 is not a candidate for off road use because it uses old resistor coil technology that is inefficient and not easily upgraded. Newer carts from the early 90s on up used solid state speed control which can be upgraded to race mode if you have enough $....

I agree with Scotty, You could do it, but I think you would be disapointed. I like members that ask questions before the get in to deep to stop there projects. Don't stop ask'n and you'll decide on the one that's right for you. PS....Scotty, what are you doing in the Yami section?

So basically if I want to take it off roads this cart (stock equipment) it wont hold up that well? But if I just wanted to lift it for looks and minor off roading it should be sufficient for that. Correct?

I am basically just doing it for show and local bar; I mean shopping trips.

What do you guys think the top speed these things come and what can it get up to.

I replaced all the power wires with 4 gauge wire, I think it made a difference in climbing the hills but it still isn't super fast. That is the only reason I haven't put a lift on, I don't want it to go even slower!

Honestly with new 4 gauge cables and healthy batteries you could put a 4" lift and some 20" tires on it without straining it badly and still have the lifted look neccessary for bar h, I mean Shopping trips The key words here are :
4ga. cables
Healthy batteries
20" tires

sorry STLCAR didn't mean to hijack your posting, just wanted to point out the fact that the bigger cables did help.

Not a problem Scottsu150, good to learn that larger cables will help out a little.

What DOG eluded to is your g1 burns the same number of amps crawling as wide open and that will reduce your off road distance, unless you can go fast enough to just hit the tops of the bumps.
