fairplay only charging to 50%
Hello, I just purchased a fairplay cart from a guy. Its a 2010 48V. The gentleman said he was having issues with it having enough power for 2 rounds of golf. His buddy has same cart only difference is the cart I bought has a heater. His buddy can play 2 rounds of golf no problem he couldn't. Well I took it home put it on the charger and unplugged charger the next day. The cart barely made it 18 holes. Went home put on charger and the next day I checked the Volts on each battery. I was getting a reading of 7.9-8.1 for all the batteries. The batteries together I got 49.1 Volt reading. The batteries were purchased 11 months ago. The batteries are Les Schwaub golf cart batteries. have called numerous people and been getting different answers. I called Lester chargers and the gentleman there said it sounds like the charger is working correctly. Thought I would check out this site and see if some of you cart guys could help me out. Thanks Eric

Re: fairplay only charging to 50%
I'm not familiar with your cart, but it still uses batteries and a charger. I would take a voltage reading across your battery pack while the charger is on and after several hours of charging. Let us know what it is. Also try driving the cart with your meter connected across the pack and see what the voltage drops to while driving.
You also stated that you brought the cart home and then unplugged the charger the next day. Was the charger still running when you unplugged it? These tests will help to get us started with a diagnosis. |

Have you verified correct electrolyte levels in each battery?

Re: fairplay only charging to 50%
Check the pack voltage near the end of the charge cycle and verify the pack is reaching 56v or so... then if the charger shuts off ? let the pack settle for 12-24 hours and see what voltage the pack retains. Then with a meter still attached (alligator clips) See what the pack voltage drops to under heavy acceleration. These 3 measurements will paint a picture of the system.

Re: fairplay only charging to 50%
another question. when I plugged in the charger I noticed it only goes to 10 amps for the charge. is this correct. it is a 17 amp charger. took it down to battery store they are doing a load test. will see where that puts me. my gas cart was so much easier. but it wasn't street legal. oh well.

Re: fairplay only charging to 50%
What brand batteries... Les Schwab? What are the ah ratings, etc.? The fairplays have a lot of power with their motors and 400amp controllers. You need a high rated battery such as Trojan's T875 or (T106 if you have 8 batts) If the Les Schwab have lower ratings and if they were not properly maintained for the last 11 months, then that is probably why he sold the cart.
