Inside the port
So, my wife started to pull out of the garage without checking the charging cable. It broke the plug in half and I replaced it. However, I neglected to check the port on the cart. After I saw the port, it also was busted. So, I ordered a new one. I got it in today and there is this item in the old one and when I tried to put it in the new port the cut out isn't really large enough. I do plan to send it back, but just would like to know what it does.

Re: Inside the port
It's a reed switch. It's purpose is to disable the cart while the charger is plugged into the port to prevent exactly what you're going through. It's a tight fit, but it should be able to go back in.

Re: Inside the port
Alternatively it can be jumpered around, which is probably how yours was - and how the accidental drive off was able to happen.

Re: Inside the port
The switch is actually very tight, too tight to fit actually. The original has a slightly larger area where it was.

Re: Inside the port
I see that... as it wasn't setup to work with it to start with, I will "fix" this after I upgrade to 48 volt and change out this receptacle.

Re: Inside the port
Loop the charger cord through the steering wheel. Unless you never run off road or bumpy on road, the reed switch WILL fail.
