workhorse question
i drove an older workhorse tonight while looking for a cart to buy
the steering was tight, the suspension felt really solid. it is a mid 90's cart, i think, but i could not find the serial number as it was getting dark and the engine compartment was a bit hard to manuever in without a flashlight. anyway, i liked the cart despite some rust in the bed my concern was with the acceleration. when i stepped on the accelerator, it took about 3 or 4 seconds to get going. once going, it moved well and was able to move pretty fast. but, once i stopped on a hill and tried to get going again, it really struggled to get going again. i was able to replicate this multiple times. the rest of the cart seems to function fine. it did not smoke or sputter, no popping or backfiring. brakes seemed solid too. he said he has a local cart place service it and they rebuilt the motor last year. does this sound like a motor issue? i just dont know enough about them to make a guess. i liked the cart and wanted to find a way to make a fair offer, but with it running that way, i suggested he have it checked out and get back to me with the results from the mechanic thoughts.. thanks for your consideration |

Re: workhorse question
A mid 90s cart is going to have a 9 hp engine. That's not a lot of power. The clutch is likely original ... can you watch the clutch when this is happening and see if the belt is slipping? Is the belt excessively worn / loose? The year is the in the manufacture code on the ID tag in the glove box. Post the manufacture code.

Re: workhorse question
Check engine compression 1st. Then budget for new clutches and belts. If it were an ST 350, then it will have the 11 hp engine. I think some models started using the 350cc around 1998 or so...
