Default Diff Oil Weight??

So im about to put my diff back together tonight and im seeing mixed things about what weight oil I should use.

The diff is a Dana from my 1989 Par Car.

Ive seen in the manual referances to both 30 weight and 90 weight for the diff. 30 for electric, and 90 for gas.

I am wondering though, I am going to be rough on this thing, and im thinking 30 might not be enough.

Tires are 25x10x12 in the rear and 25x8x12 in the front.

What do you guys use??

I assume you have an electric cart? Use 30wt synthetic oil

Yes, Its electric.

I have never seen gear oil that thin before. I was thinking of just using some straight 30 weight Mobile 1, Since I already know where to get it.

You have three sets of gears in your diff.. The oil is slung by the bottom gear up to the top gear & bearings. The thicker the oil the harder it is to get oil to the top gear & bearings. You should use 30 wt oil... Just my 2 cents...

Agreed Dunno about Parcar but all of the three major makers call for 30wt for the reason that GB mentioned ....

Thats what I was thinking. The thicker oil would take more power to move around and thus creating more drive line drag, Reducing efficiency.
