G2 solid state conversion
Still working on the solid state conversion. Got a Curtis 1204, 275 amp controller and the pb 6 pot box. Thanks Smallblock for the Hyundai idea that was a HUGE help! the diagams are identical aside from the Hyundai having the controller. It seems the closer I get the more questions I have. Now I'm not sure about the electronics on the solinoid or even if they're needed. The Hyundai diagram shows a 3A 100v diode across the solinoids coil leads and a 205ohm 5w resistor across the contact leads. I can't find what controller was used by Hyundai. The Curtis diagram shows a 'optional precharge resistor', does anyone know what the purpose is and what, if any configuation I will need? Thanks again folks.

Staying with 36v. Sould be ok with the stock solenoid.

If you are ordering you just need a 1 amp diode
Do you know how to read the polarity of a diode? |

Not a clue, I'm in over my head, figured I'd tackle that problem when I got it but I'll take any help and advice I can get. Do either the resistor or diode have anything to do with the controller amps? and whats the purpose? It seems the resistor would always keep power to the whole circuit. Thanks

They are safety devices that protect the solenoid and controller from unwanted voltage spikes and contact damage. The resistor is not polarity sensitive in fact both large terminals of the solenoid are the same polarity.
The diode is polarity sensitive. the diode will have a band on it... the banded end is positive. it must be put on the positive side of the activation circuit = the 2 small posts. Is there any part of this you are not clear on? |
