Default Workhorse ST-480 killing battery

I have a EZGO WorkHorse ST-480 with a 16HP Briggs & Stratton Vanguard vee twin motor. A good fully charged battery will start it and work fine for a few hours of run time. But the battery will eventually die. Die as in have a dead short in the battery itself. My thinking is that its the Voltage Regulator, but I have no idea on how to test it. It does run if you disconnect the battery. As mentioned in other threads about the green wire, I did not find the "green" wire on the Gen/starter to gorund and then test.

Thanks in advance.

Didn't find the green wire..... that could be the problem..... it should be there. If it gets unhooked/broke then the system will not charge. I'll check mine later today to see where it's at (don't remember right off, been a few years, but I think it comes out on the bottom pass side)
I had to do the same test on mine when I bought it cause the v/r was bad. It would run for a while then get to where it wouldn't start untill the battery was charged back up. I think the 480s have a grounding issue that leads to some of these problems because how the front cradle mount is. Looks to me (because of all the rubber bushings) at time there could be no ground going from the engine/frame to the cart/frame other than cables, like e-brake and choke.

I was able to find it. The previous owner had changed it to red. But I followed it to the green lead. Thanks for the help.
