Default 1992 Generator Question

Hi all. I recently had a dead battery, no biggie bought another like 2 weeks ago. I was driving the cart yesterday and noticed it had a hard time cranking, like the battery was weak and this morning it was dead. I throw the charger on it and let it charge a few hours and it cranks the cart right up. Put the multi-meter on it and it's showing 13v, crank the cart up, (jacked it up) revved the engine, put the meter on it and it's still showing 13v. Does this sound like my generator needs new brushes?

Also is there a way I can direct test the generator by putting the meter directly on the proper terminals? I thought I read something here that I could but I can't find it again. It seemed like I read the F1 (?) cable and another cable, I don't know.

Thank you for any advice!

Voltage regulator would be the first suspect.

Okay, thanks. I've already ordered the brushes so I guess I'll put those in first. I'm guessing they have probably never been changed in the life of the cart. If that doesn't help I'll go for the voltage regulator next.

I'd still like to be able to check it directly off the gen if I just knew what to hook what up too.

mine wasn't charging and we discovered the voltage regulator wasn't grounded so we ran a small wire from it to ground and it solved the problem
