Re: Yamaha G29 motor
I'd say yours isn't really bad, some cleaning / grinding / new brushes and you're ready to go. Get the brushes from Amazon or from a Yamaha dealer.

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
That commutator can be cleaned up just fine with a file and sandpaper. I got my replacement brushes from Amazon and they were fine. They come with the pigtail and the posts that the A1, A2 cables connect to. Easy install - just remove old and install new exactly the same as the old. (take a good picture before removing the brushes so you are sure of how the wires are routed.
When you go to put the armature back in, move the springs off of the brushes so that you can keep them retracted while installing the armature. Then put the springs in place on the ends of the brushes. Make sure everything is fitting correctly before assembling the motor and you will be good to go. |

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
Hi Fellas...Ok i cleaned the commutator as good as I can its was pitted badly...also the brushes were stuck fast...I worked then in and out with some degreaser until they were free, wash it all then blew it dry....(ordered new brushes from amazon...I noticed some of the lacquer is chipped on the end wiring, see pic...is this a concern, should i get some lacquer and touch it up..
Many thx. [/url[/url |

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
It looks ok to me but don't run it with those old worn down brushes. The new ones will be much longer than those.

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
Even with new brushes, it's important to have a smooth commutator surface or the brushes will be eaten up in a short time.

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
Yay...I put it all back together and had to test it to check if it worked, not as a fully working unit(waiting for new brushes)..put the motor back in and all the wires as you guys said and away it spun...Great, so the motor is not stuffed...what a relief..Now what batteries?...I think lithium are out at this stage as very expensive in Australia....Must I use 4 x 12v 150ah...what about 100ah?? What sort of distance and time from 100ah? Or am I dreaming?

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
Good to hear with the motor... a 48v 100ah lithium battery would be fine but, i don't know any 12v 100ah real golfcart battery ( don't use Marine and NEVER Starter batteries ).

Re: Yamaha G29 motor
These 102ah Century batteries are for sure not designed for golfcart use. I wouldn't throw any money out for them.
