Re: EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly
drafting, the more I read your thread I keep coming back to a spark or electrical issue somewhere. When you touch the pedal does the engine spin over?
The fact that you have changed your coil eliminates that part of the issue you're having...maybe the micro switch at the pedal?? Also when you installed your new carb, did you clean it? They are infamous for leaving milling in the cheap carbs...don't ask how I know. Under the black cover near the battery, check ALL the connections and then re-check again and make sure you have good grounds. I have crawled all over my cart now for roughly 2 months running down and electrical issue but she is up and running now thanks to all the guys on this board! A great wealth of knowledge on here!!!!! |

Re: EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly
Thanks for that information. I will check it. Tonight i installed new plugs, thinking they may have fouled out. One plug was getting good spark but the other was really weak if any spark at all. You may have something about connections, I will check there.
It will drive ok when it starts. |

Guyboy, also it does turn over until the battery runs down from cranking.

Re: EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly
drafting, these buggies can be very tricky at times. We all know these engines only need three things to run. If you are pumping fuel and of course air, the only thing left is spark. The grounds and connections leading up to having enough "juice" to get that spark can be elusive at times. Making sure you have a good battery that is fully charged and double checking all the connections can make a world of difference on a cart.
The simply stuff that doesn't cost money is always the best place to start. i bought a coil about a month ago so I assumed that was not my problem but during my troubleshooting and just all around messing with the cart to try to get her running again, turns out my new coil was a bad coil. I'll try to attach some pics of the bad coil. |

Re: EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly
Thanks for the info. It does crank when I step on the pedal. Does not start unless I press the pedal frequently like you would do on old non-fuel injected engines.

Also, it starts sluggishly when it starts until the gas fuel has started. It will also start if the choke is pulled some.

Re: EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly
If you are happy with the way it runs once you got it going, then i would concentrate on the carb. As Guyboy has stated, even new carbs need a thorough cleaning before use. If you have a clone/copy chinese carb this would be my first place to look. If you have a Genuine carb, even these are known to need a thorough clean before use. The problem is most likely to be in the intermediate jet drilling, not the main jet as it runs fine once started. Twist some copper wire strands together and use this to ream out any drillings and then use a good carb cleaner spray can to check that they are clean. there are some real tiny drillings behind the butterfly that need checking too. Try not to use compressed air to clean carbs as any obstruction can be blown deeper into the drillings.
