2010 built by SUNCOR ?
Our 2010 Yamaha electric is built by Suncor ? in Youngtown , Arizona
I did a VIN decode and they call it a Suncor not a Yamaha. There is a sticker under the seat that says Suncor . This first came to my attention when we called our insurance agent to get liability (required in our community) , for street use. He called back and told us we had a Suncor, not a Yamaha . |

Re: 2010 built by SUNCOR ?
Yamaha makes no claim to a "suncor" on their web site.
All Yamaha golf carts are made in Newnan, Georgia. I don't know about suncor specifically but there are a lot of Chinese clones out there of EZGOs and presumably Yamaha and Club Car also. Usually they have a US address but it is just where they are imported to. The issue with the clones is getting parts and someone to fix it if it breaks. |

Yes youngtown AZ where you can buy a "yamaha" sun classic of any model year. even a 2018! I have not heard of suncor myself either but out there, "yamaha" seems to make some models you just cant get anywhere else. even from Yamaha lol

Wish I had a 2018 sun classic. But I do love my ‘87.

Re: 2010 built by SUNCOR ?
I find that "SUNCOR" translates to an Yamaha Dealer d.b.a. Desert Carts:
http://www.buzzfile.com/business/Des...r-623-584-8461 wwwdesertgolfcars.com/about-us/ Site mentions they do custom builds. Is the cart equipped as "street legal" with brake lights, turn signals & horn? Does it carry a 17 digit VIN rather than a regular cart serial #? I'm wondering if it started out as a Yamaha that was reborn as an LSV? |

And it has a 17 digit VIN. It is built by Yamaha and probably the street legal equipment added by Desert Golf Cars,, it goes 24 MPH so maybe they upped the speed. It's not a clone or chinese copy, it's Yamaha built. It has a Yamaha serial number also. Desert Golf Cars is the only authorized Yamaha dealer in Arizona. |

Re: 2010 built by SUNCOR ?
So that's the answer. That dealer has jumped through the hoops, paid off who ever they needed to, in order to be recognized (at least by the state of AZ) as a manufacturer. They can create a 17 digit VIN for the vehicle (key issue in many states). It's rather like a motorhome: yes all the mechanicals are made by Ford, GM or whoever, but the registration will be under Pace Arrow, South Wind, Thor or whoever did the coachwork. So for any mechanicals it IS a Yamaha regardless of what the state DMV says.
