My Marine battery sits under the seat.....right under the drivers side.

I was told as long as the load was just under 30a I should be fine as the reducer has overcurrent protection and will just shut down for a bit if the load is too great. Hope this helps.
No it is an pretty old Warn, not even sure of what model, other than 2000# capacity.

Hmm..., now that is a good question. Been a while since I looked at that. I'll have to do some searching around.

Seems my memory is not what it used to be. I searched around on here and can not find where any one has found a capable reducer for running a winch. Swore I saw where a few folks did. Sorry, my bad!

Here are some specs for a Warn 2000 lb winch.

Is shows that at line pulls under 500 lbs, you MIGHT be able to get away with a 30 amp voltage reducer.

Over 500 lbs, you would seriously exceed the amperage rating of nearly any voltage reducer as this winch is rated for 80 amps at a 2000 lb line pull.

It sounds like the separate 12 volt battery is the way to go.

The "pull by layer" ratings are interesting too. To get the maximum pull out of a winch, you need to have all of the cable pulled out (which make sense). On the 5th layer, a 2000 lb winch only pulls 1117 lbs!

A manual come along is great to have in the box when you get stuck
