1985 G2 Yamaha Cranks over but wont start
Hello , We have a family heirloom of a G2, Its the " Girls Cart "and recently it has given us some problems. My daughters were driving along on the flat, went over a speed bump fast with out sopping and the cart died. This happened last fall and then Hockey season came along so the cart got parked and now Spring is here and I'm looking at investigating the issue some more. The cart will crank over and attempt to start, I have done the flowing to it
New Battery, New solenoid , New Fuel Pump , New Primary Clutch, Cleaned the carb , Air Filter box (good and tight) , Compression reads correctly , new Spark plug with good spark. New fuses, Tested the switch under the gas pedal. New Igniter Will probably dump the fuel that's in there now and start with some fresh new fuel , to see if that's the issue ,any other suggestions that i can try ? Thank you in advance |

Have you checked the fuel flow to see if it is good?
Take empty water bottle and put fuel line into it, should have a slow steam into bottle. |

a 12v continuous duty relay, like for a snow plow, will work. Not a starting relay. |

Maybe check the carb spacer to make sure it is not cracked. Have you checked the valve lash? Maybe also loosen the exhaust with get a little gap and try to start. The exhaust may be plugged.

Sounds like you’re on the road to recovery. Folks here have so much knowledge/experience, bound to have “ been there “ before.

Re: 1985 G2 Yamaha Cranks over but wont start
Wow, one single speed bump broke the carb spacer, AND snapped a pushrod!? I have put every Yamaha gasser I have seen/owned/driven (at least 4 Yami gassers at the house right now) through all hell, and you got sold the biggest "fish story" ever. I have seen a very few busted pushrods, and several broken intake spacers, but you got sold a whopper with that tale. They really gave it hell! Is your governor defeated? How did they do it all in one fell swoop? Does the suspension still sit straight?
I guess look at it this way, you know which parts won't be the cause of porblems for a long time! (If you didn't buy the $25 China version of everything) |
