Default 1992 Ezgo GXT 804

Hi this is my first post, so I will get right to the question. I have a 92 ezgo gxt 804 gas cart. When I bought it the guy told me it was set up for golf course use as far as the drive belt goes. We are going to use this in a campground which as dirt roads and hills. He said we should switch the belt to a 40" belt which I am assuming is a smaller belt than what is on there now? Does this sound correct? or does anyone else have another suggestion? He said by using the 40" belt the clutch will grab quicker and the cart will go up the hills better.
If this is true if someone could point me in the right direction as to where to buy one that would be a big help also. Part number, supplier, website? anything is better than where I am at now.

Thanks
Jakj

Welcome to the site. You are gonna love this place. I haven't been a member long but the help these guys give out is awesome and reading the threads on what other people are doing can get addictive.
I don't know about belt sizes but I think I can point you in the right direction. Now I'm wondering if I should change my belt size too. www.jandmgolfcarts.com I've seen their name flash a few times on the site so I'm pretty sure they're a site sponsor. From a few threads I've read J&M seem to know their stuff. They are actually located 15 or so miles from me. I emailed them a question, before I found this site, they gave me the names of two of their mechanics I should talk to. I called them up and had my engine running again.

The cart should pretty much already have the smallest ezgo belt made unless "the guy" has stuck a longer belt on it. There's a thread about shorter belts in the tech section, people have used a yamaha belt on those carts for the added gearing. is it a 4 stroke engine?

When I bought the cart from this guy he told me it is a 92 Ezgo GXT 804? Is the correct or is it a Marathon? I have been looking online and do not see to much information on the gxt 804 but some have refered to this model as the marathon because it is a 92?

It's a marathon based cart, meaning it shares the same type of frame, front end, and rear/engine. The 804 is a utility cart basically use for turf care on golf courses and other industrial application. Here's a pic of mine, this one is called a TUFF1. they also have a variant that's called a XT500, the seat and bed are alittle different on those plus they have no lights.
