Default Help needed for headlight and taillight wiring

OK so my 36v ezgo marathon has two 12 V headlights and two 12 V taillights that were not connected. I decided to connect them but need a little help. I noticed the previous wiring had all the positive wires from both head lights and tail lights connected together. Same for the negative wires. So all four lights are connected and reduced to two wires. One positive and one negative. The positive runs to the push pull switch, then from the switch to a 30amp in-line fuse, then to the main positive battery post. The negative wires run to one solder-less ring terminal. That ring terminal is placed on the second battery in the series for 12 volts (6x2). Now this doesn’t make sense to me because if you have 4x12v lights your going to need 48 volts right? I tried it just to see what happened and well as I thought nothing happened. Made sure the fuse was good as well. If I hook up the negative to battery 6 I’ll be getting 36 volts, will that be enough to power 4x12v lights. Maybe be a little dim? Also having it wired like this if one light bulb blows won’t the rest not work (like Christmas lights lol) any help would be appreciated!

No. You do not need 48 volts. All you need is a 12 volt SOURCE. The diagram you show will give you a 12 volt source but it is not optimal for your batteries. (But it will work) You need a 36 to 12 volt reducer.

If you have it wired like the diagram and the lights are not working you have another problem.

Also, if you hook 36 volts to those lights you will blow them all.

Ok I tried it again tracing all wires and they are all correct. Tested all the lights individually and they all work. Did a continuity test on the push pull switch and the multimeter beeped when the switch was on. Put a brand new 30a fuse in. Still nothing. What else can I troubleshoot to pinpoint the issue?

Not sure what you mean by a continuity test on the switch, or how you did it.

Are you getting voltage at the light sockets?

How did you test these lights?

Are you getting power to the switch?

There is nothing left to test if you say the switch is working.

Continuity test is when your multimeter is set to “continuity” setting. If it beeps then a solid connection is being made allowing current to pass through. So if a switch is off there should be no beep and if the switch is on it will beep. I’ll take some pics today and post them.
