Default G9 IGNITOR PROBLEMS - spark

I have a G9 1992 Yamaha golf car that will rev up and start to cut the spark to the spark plug, this I cheched with a timming light and the spark wil stop and as the motor loses revs the spark will come back. The next I did was to rev it up till the spark is gone then back the throttel of and the spark will stay there for ever.

Do these ignitors have a build in rev limiter in them? Sorry my rev counter will or can not read the revs so I can not get the point were this is starting to cut the spark, will sort it out tommorow.

What is the max revs for these motors?

I have also cleaned all connectors to the ignitor.

Any help will help

Thanks
Markus

Sounds like a rev limiter on a G2.

sounds like you are having the same issue as me i have a tiny tach mine seems to happen around 4200 rpm and will bounce between 4200 and 3900 or so the tach has a slow update

Some of those carts do have rev limiters on them like Spriddle said. I didn't think that a 1992 G9 came with one, but I could be wrong. Thought it was only on the older G2's.

I know you guy's think I'm crazy......But I will say it again, If you have a "worn/exploded" primary clutch weight, it will give you the same effect. Does the engine "osolate" in the higher rpm range, like cutting in and out?

Thanks for all the replies first of all

Smallblock the engine is "osolating" at high rpm but the spark is also going dead at that high rpm I will check the primery clutch weights today.

Will get new battries this morning for my rev counter and check the rpm to see if they are around 4200

So it can be safe to say that if this motor is reving 4200 it is a rev limiter on the car.

How can I check if it is not a G2 car

Thanks
Markus

Ok I have checked the rev and it happens at around 4432 rpm........so this must be a rev limiter comming into play

I will go and check the primery clutch weights now

the g2 has the rev limiter built into the ignition, and has alum trim on the hood down to the floor. the g9/g2 (almost identical engines) motor red line is 5500 rpm but for the g2 the internal rev limiter will kick in befor that but i don't know exactly at what rpm.

so if its not the primary weights, it might be the rev limiter.
