Default 1998 TXT not starting

1. Drove cart into garage and parked it last Fall.
2. No apparent problems
3. In the meantime, my son tried to move it; would not start
4. He removed the battery; corroded [no time line on the above]
5. Last week, I checked the cart and found it would not start.
6. Replaced battery, spark plugs [gap to .028], Air & inline fuel filter.
7. Also replaced the [rotted hose from air filter to carb.
8. Oil needs to be changed [thought I would wait until I got it started to warm up oil before changing].
9. Have spark
10 There are two belts; one narrow, one wide;latter is very loose [didn't seen that would cause a no start]
11 After trying to start then rechecking plugs, they are black with what appears to be oil.
12. Tomorrow, if I do not hear from any gurus out there, I will change the oil cold and clean the oil filter.
13 took the old battery into autozone for an exchange This has 230CCA
14 Had to regap plugs [they were way wide] to .28

I am not proficent in the engine of a golf cart and am a loss as to what to try next. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated
Paul

spray the carb. to see if the enine picks up.. It is turning over right? If it turns over and doesnt stay running, you have a fuel issue whick should leave you working on the carb. or checking for adequate fuel to the carb.

Sprayed into air filter housing. Engine started
However, I noticed that where I sprayed there was a flame. I put it out by smothering with a rag. Tried it again. This time no flame. I replaced air filter turned it over again and went for a short test ride and checkrd the engie again. Still no flame. I figure the flame was the starter fluid burning.

I will drive it again to warm up the oil, then change it and clean the oil filter.
After that, plan to pressure wash the engine area as it is still dirty even after using a compressor to blow out loose crud.

Thanks for your tip. Sometimes I get working on something like this and forget the basics. Appreciate your help

might not hurt to check the valves with a feeler gauge while your changing the oil. they should all have a .004 gap

Hmmmmm! Valves? What Valves?? Where are they located? I am drawing a blank on this; please fill me in.
The cart is moving. However when I press down on the gas it balks like it wants to stall. If I pull out the choke it comes to life for a moment but then back to the same.

You need to clean the carb... Take it off and clean it thoroughly with some solvent of some sort and compressed air. Second, adjust the valves. The tech section will give you gap specs and there is also a manual for your engine in there that will guide you through valve adjustment.
