85 Columbia with a 75 Harley body?
Howdy Folks,
Bought myself a really rough looking 85 gas Columbia 3 wheel for a little project. It came off a farm and the body was beat to a pulp. Started to tear down the cart and found the frame and mechanicals were surprisingly good. My thought was to attempt major fiberglass repairs and make it right again. While researching Harley's and Columbia's I found myself really liking the Harley body shape over the Columbia. I purchased a 1975 Harley ( that Is coming tomorrow ) with mechanical problems but a real decent body. Did I make a mistake or will I be able to use his Harley body on the 1985 frame? Photos of the Harley frame look nearly the same as my 85. Appreciate any imput. Thanks, Captainanglin |

Your Columbia and Harley should be interchangeable as long as they are both 3 wheel carts. I believe I would just repair both then you would have 2 good carts. The other way you would have 1 good cart and a bunch of spare parts. Of course both options are good.

Re: 85 Columbia with a 75 Harley body?
Thanks for the reply Gone Wild...since this post I have both torn down and well on the way. Surprising how similar the two are 10 years apart. The only thing that needs altered to change bodies is the floor where the front of the frame comes up through. Simply have to cut out the shape of the Harley front cowl and fold over a tab to recess the cowl below the floor and have a fastening point.
I bought the Harley with a bad motor just for the body. Now I have a lot of decent parts to really get this 85 going. Motor tear down is this weekend. The body has been stripped and is near ready for minor body work before paint. Getting ready to drop of the chrome for a dip. Good bit of fun playing with these carts. They make an great affordable little project for over the winter. I'll post pics as it starts to come back together. Last edited by Captainanglin; 02-17-2012 at 06:41 PM.. Reason: Sp |
