86 CC voltage drop
I have a 86 model 36 volt CC with resistor coils system. I replaced the batteries about 8 months ago.
It doesn't seam to have much get up and go and it runs out of power really quickly. I charged it over night and checked the voltage the next day, it read 37.4 volts. So then I hooked up a volt meter and ran the cart. It starts out at 37.4 volts then drops to 34 volts when under power. I also checked the SG and it read as shown on the attached diagram. What should a good 36 volt pack be when fully charged? It looks to me like my batteries are bad even though they are only 8 months old. What do you think? |

Re: 86 CC voltage drop
Check this sticky. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-readings.html.
Your pack is not fully charged. You are only getting charged to about 80-85%. Fully charged your specific gravity should read 1.277 per cell. 37.4 pack voltage is about 78% according to that sticky. I would say your batteries are bad or your charger is. Did you get golf cart deep discharge batteries? |

Yes they are golf cart batteries i got at sams club. Here is the info they had on them. ENERGIZER GOLF CART GROUP SIZE GC2 220 AMP HOURS 6 VOLT RELIABLE CYCLING ABILITY I checked the voltage on the pack after the charger had been charging for a while and it was increasing to over 44 volts. Do you think the charger is ok if the voltage is increasing like this? |

Re: 86 CC voltage drop
44-46 is normally the finish voltage for a 36v charge. however, you should have 38.2 12 hours after the charge has completed. A drop of 3 or 4v under load is okay but it looks like you are not holding a full charge 12 hrs after the cut off?

Re: 86 CC voltage drop
Yellerdog you might want to talk to ScottyB about converting your coil system to solid state. Looks like it can be done very inexpensively. Check out his web site.
